Summer – Please Restart Yourself!
Our Youth Empowerment Program (YEP) team is having a BLAST participating in C2 Camp… but it’s boiling down to an end. This year’s camp focus for our Youth Empowerment Program team is fun, hands-on S.T.E.A.M. education. Through a fabulous collaboration with Tri-County Community Network, YWCA Tri-County (YW3CA) was able to purchase 8 new iPads and 12 merge Cubes for this year’s C2 Camp.
This new, exciting technology is an awesome way for youth to connect and learn through S.T.E.A.M. education. C2 Camp students are spending their summer engaged in technology infused with creativity, arts, and science.
So what is C2 Camp? It’s inception took place in early 2016 when a coalition of youth service providers formed the camp under TCN’s direction. The camp is designed in cooperation with Pottstown School District to serve students in 5th-8th grade.
For six weeks, students get learn, have fun, and grow through activities such as tennis, gardening, health and wellness, cooking, financial management, achievement and leadership, art and reading!
YW3CA’s Youth Empowerment Program team loves participating in the camp. Each class, they begin with social emotional learning activities which emphasize the benefits of pausing to prepare for the upcoming activities, helping everyone get into the mindset to learn.
Students work in pairs and small groups and pairs, focusing heavily on the theme of teamwork. Engaging, hands-on learning through fun team-building activities strengthen each student’s concept knowledge while building trust, empathy and collaboration skills.
This summer YW3CA’s Youth Empowerment Program team is excited to introduce the Merge Cube into their lesson plans. Using Augmented Reality (AR) students will participate in AR Gaming and S.T.E.A.M.-based activities that allow them literally to hold the sun in their hands, dive into the body and see what the lungs look like and how they function, understand why breathing is so important to their brains, get immersed in an AR “choose your own story” that comes to life, and more.
