This past weekend was the kickoff event for the Girls Today, Leaders Tomorrow (GTLT) 2019-2020 programming year!
Girls Today, Leaders Tomorrow (GTLT) is a program that was introduced by Women United over 10 years ago. Since its’ inception, GTLT has empowered and supported over 450 youth. Women’s United signature program GTLT helps guide young girls in low-performing schools that are exhibiting at-risk behaviors.
The goal of this program is to guide these young women back on track to high school graduation. The program leads these girls even farther. According to GTLT’s website, “by focusing on personal goals and achievement, each GTLT participant creates a path to college and career with support from their peers and mentors.”
At the September Kick-Off event this past weekend, the girls got to enjoy quality outdoor time at Althouse Aboretum. Althouse Aboretum, in partnership with Green Allies, promotes environmental preservation and education with over 17 acres of open space. Althouse Aboretum features a children’s forest trail, a native plant garden, two forest classrooms, a low ropes course, and more!
GTLT program participants were excited to partake in a leadership scavenger hunt and the low ropes course. Activities focused on fostering teamwork, trust, and leadership, the girls’ had a blast exploring and learning with one another at the Aboretum.
GTLT participants came from together from Pottstown, Philadelphia, and Camden for their annual retreat. The first of many more activities to come this program year, they got lucky with beautiful weather this past Saturday.
GTLT partners with YWCA Tri-County Area’s (YW3CA) Youth Empowerment Program(YEP) to provide educational and empowerment programming for young girls through the year. YEP empowers youth with knowledge and life skills needed to lead healthy lifestyles and to succeed in school, in their relationships, and in their future careers by cultivating healthy habits.
