Annual Events

MLK Day of Service (January)

Coming up on January 15, 2024, is Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service!

This will be the third year that YWCA has participated in what has become known as Martin Luther King Jr National Day of Service. MLK Day of Service is the only federal holiday that is also designated by Congress as a National Day of Service. No matter the choice, service empowers individuals, strengthens communities, bridges barriers, creates solutions and moves us closer to Dr. King’s vision of a beloved community.

Below is information regarding our organizational plans for this Day of Service:

8:30AM – 9:00AM
- Registration at Complex (724 N Adams St, Pottstown, PA - enter via Grant St in back of building)
9AM – 10AM
- Welcome at Complex (724 N Adams St, Pottstown, PA)
10AM – 1PM
- Service Projects
1PM – 2PM
- Lunch Break (lunch will be provided at the Complex Gym - same place as registration on this date)
2PM-4PM
- Workshops (724 N Adams St, Pottstown, PA)

Until Justice Just Is (April)

YWCA is on a mission to eliminate racism and empower women. Because we know that we cannot empower all women without confronting systemic racism, we act every day by raising awareness of the impacts of institutional and structural racism and by building community among those who work for racial justice.

We believe it's time to be more inclusive in our language and our campaigns. Since 2015, we have invited and inspired countless activists, advocates, and allies to join us in the movement to eliminate racism through our annual Stand Against Racism campaign. The campaign has served its purpose in the last eight years with gatherings that united our efforts against racism, but it is time to be more inclusive with our message as we continue to evolve and learn. While the campaign itself has long united us against racism, we acknowledge that for many, the word “stand” in its name evoked feelings of ableism, exclusivity, and disempowerment. As an organization dedicated to advancing justice for all, it’s our responsibility to ensure that all are included in the movement and inspired to take part in advancing justice in partnership with us. That is why we are renaming our annual racial justice campaign Until Justice Just Is.

This year, Until Justice Just Is centers around the theme Advancing Justice: Ensuring Equity for All, and our campaign will take place throughout the entire month of April. YWCA USA will host a virtual event on Thursday, April 13th, and the YWCA Racial Justice Challenge, beginning on Monday, April 17th. All throughout the month of April, YWCA USA will highlight YWCA Local Association events and initiatives to inspire and engage our network of activists, advocates, and allies all month long.

Ice Cream Social & Play Streets (July)

YWCA Tri-County Area will host the Annual Ice Cream Social (TBD 2024) from 5:30 pm to 7:30 p.m., at its newest building, The Complex at 724 N. Adams Street, Pottstown.

YW invites the public, families, volunteers, and community members to stop by and learn more about YW’s mission to eliminate racism, empower women and promote peace, justice, freedom, and dignity for all. Tours of the Complex will be offered and information about programs, services, and ways to get involved will be available on-site.
