Ingrid started at YW3CA in our English Language Learning remote class soon after isolation from COVID-19. She was born in Columbia, where she received a Food Science degree. She and her husband were new to the country when they first enrolled in YW3CA’s Adult Education & Training Center; the program helped enhance their English language skills and allowed them to socialize with people worldwide. Her favorite thing about the class was “Dr. Campbell; she included thought-provoking Tik Toks inspiring self-improvement.”
She also found Dr. Campbell’s lectures very interesting. Our Adult Education Center is designed to cover many topics, including science and history. Adult Learners can explore these topics in many ways, including class discussions, games, and comprehension questions. Many issues were new to Ingrid, she was amazed and “felt like a little kid – things were surprising and fun to learn.”
YW3CA Staff, especially at the Adult Education Center, ensure that each student receives personal attention and support as a whole person. Ingrid experienced this firsthand when she needed to go to Columbia for a month to help her family and was welcomed right back into class when she returned. “I connected with and enjoyed having Sue as an advisor.” Sue Outland, one of YW3CA’s Student Success Advisors, noticed her student’s improved fluency in recent phone conversations and knew Ingrid did, too.
Ingrid’s journey extends beyond YW3CA; building on the progress and connections she established at the Adult Education Center, she can advance to more complex ESL classes at Montgomery County Community College. She dreams of pursuing courses in environmental science one day. “I am very thankful for YW3CA’s ETC program and so happy I found it!”
