AmeriCorps Seniors Foster Grandparents Program Expands into Chester County

AmeriCorps Seniors Foster Grandparents Program Expands into Chester County

YW3CA is a proud sponsor of the AmeriCorps Seniors Foster Grandparent Program, which has provided dozens of older adults (55+) opportunities to engage with Pre-K-12 grades youth in Montgomery County schools and preschool centers. Volunteer Foster Grandparents play a vital role in children’s lives. By offering mentorship, they provide crucial support to disadvantaged and exceptional youth, fostering school readiness and academic success.

In the fiscal year 2023-24, our dedicated volunteers have generously contributed over 12,000 hours of their time to support the children of Montgomery County. Thanks to the invaluable support of our committed staff, volunteers, and partners, the Foster Grandparents Program has been awarded the additional service area of Chester County. This expansion will allow the program to reach even more children in need of academic and emotional support in Chester County.

“YWCA Tri-County Area is thrilled to be able to bring the AmeriCorps Seniors Foster Grandparent Program to Chester County. We’re looking forward to expanding the positive impact of the program by engaging Chester County older adults in service to children in their local communities.” Kimberly Ryan, Director of Foster Grandparents Program.

The Foster Grandparent Program in Chester County will prioritize the communities of Coatesville, Phoenixville and Spring City/East Vincent Township, where children’s academic needs and concentrations of poverty are higher. While AmeriCorps Seniors volunteers will be welcomed from throughout Chester County, recruitment efforts will be concentrated on the three priority communities to draw volunteers from the same communities as the students they serve.

We are currently seeking seniors aged 55 and older to join our Foster Grandparent Program in both Montgomery and Chester Counties.
